THE MAC BATHROOM READER
With MACINTOSH with love
Japanese Version

APPLE CONFIDENTIAL
Apple Confidential Japanese Version

As you can see in the photo on the front cover, this is the book to read Apple’s 20 - year history of sitting on the bathroom toilet. For example, the relationship between Apple and Microsoft over Applesoft Basic etc. this book contains full of episodes that seem to be true. Also, it is interesting to tell that this partnership will burst MacBasic created by Donn Denmann. As an aside, for MacBasic that was not released, Osborne McGraw-hill has an explanation book called Using Macintosh Basic (written by Richard Norling), which shows that the release of software was just before the release. In the Next section, Bell & Howell Apple IIplus was made a special model produced in the summer of 1981, but the previous model of BH was released almost at the same time as Apple II plus, so this description is incorrect. Japanese version is also available, and Japanese title is "Macintosh with love." Although I am impressed with correct translation, the design of the front cover is different from the original book and it is very disappointing that it have destroyed the whole atmosphere of the book.

Apple Confidential was based on The Mac Bathroom Reader in 1999, added stories related to Apple after that, changed the layout, and was published with a new title. Japanese translation is also on sale from ASCII publishing Bureau. Such as compatible machine, Newton, BeBox and BeOS, iMac, recovery of Jobs and the recent status of Apple are being introduced.

The photo on the left is an array of covers of the original work and Japanese translation. The author Mr. Linzmayer autographed a copy of Apple Confidential and the transrator Mr. Fumihiko Shibata autographed Japanese version.

The legend of Macintosh
The truth of the birth of the Macintosh

前述の『林檎の木の下で』によれば、著者の斎藤由多加氏が、アップル日本語化の過程を追う中で、9311 月初旬から12月末まで行ったインタビューを一冊の本にまとめたとある。According to "Under the apple tree" as will be seen later, Mr. Yutaka Saito, who is pursuing the process of apple localizing into Japanese, summarized the interview conducted from the beginning of November 1993 until the end of December into a book. ウォズをはじめ、ジェフ・ラスキン、ジヨン・カウチ、ビル・アトキンソンなど開発関係者12名のインタビューで構成されており、開発の裏話が対話形式でまとめられている。 It consists of 12 interviews including Woz, Jeff  Ruskin, Jean Couch, Bill Atkinson, etc., and the story behind the development is summarized in an interactive format. 本書は、96年の出版だが、取材直後の942月に発売されたOpenBook (CD-ROM) の『マッキントッシュ伝説、開発者のロングインタビュー+資料集』を書籍にまとめたものだ。 Although this book was published in 1996, it is a book that summarizes "Macintosh legend, developer's long interview + material collection" based on OpenBook (CD-ROM) released right after the interview in February 1994. また、Macworld Japan943月号で同取材をベースに『徹底検証「マッキントッシュ伝説」』として発表されている。 Also on Macworld Japan magazine’s March 1994 issue on the basis of the coverage, it is announced as "Complete verification" Macintosh legend ". 932月のMacWorld Expo Tokyoで雑誌とCD-ROMは購入したことから、内容は同一だと思っていたが、あらためて読み直して比較してみると、同一の取材をベースにしているものの、取材後の93年末から94年にかけて雑誌とCD-ROMの編集作業を別々に行なったようだ。

Although I thought that the contents were the same as I bought magazine and CD-ROM at MacWorld Expo Tokyo in February 1993, when I read it again and compare it, although they are based on the same interview, it seems that editing work of magazine and CD-ROM ware carried out separately from the end of 1993 through 1994. Besides being different in expression, several developers are different. 96 The composition of books published in 1996 is based on CD-ROM. Many photographs of Mr. Kazunori Kodaira, a freelance photographer living in the United States, are posted, but in terms of photographs, it is attractive to large-format, all-color Macworld magazine than the book.
In May 1993, Mr. Kodaira released a photo collection called "Silicon Road", which is also wonderful achievement.

The Macintosh legend was reissued from Mainichi Communication as "Truth of the birth of the Macintosh legend 1" in 2003. It is a revised reprint edition, at the beginning the author added to note "for revised reprint Version", and an acknowledgment added at the end of the book, and at the beginning, he concluded that "This book is a record of birth of thinking tool that we are relying every day.”

Under the apple tree
Macintosh legend 2 under the apple tree

This book using Mr. Hachiro Suzuki's advertisement of Apple Computer Inc. in 1984 is the laborious work of Mr. Yutaka Saito, known as the author of the game such as "The Tower". According to the substitution of the postscript at the end of the book, he found the Apple II's junk in Akihabara around 1990, during six years he carefully chased the person concerned of Apple landing in Japan. A part of this book was shortly published a series of articles in "Macworld" magazine in 1992, and it was published as a series of 17 times "Dime" magazine of Shogakkan from June 1994 to the following March.
1977
Starting with the meeting of Mr. Toshio Mizushima and Apple II in the first West Coast Computer Fair in April 1977, this book describes a flow of Japanese sales channels such as ESD Laboratory, Toray, and Cannon Sales, and episodes of background stories are introduced along with plentiful photographs, and it is very valuable book to be handed over to the latter as well as fun as a nonfiction reading material. 70 It can be called a bible that I didn’t know the era of ESD laboratories and Toray from 1970s to early 1980s.

It was reprinted as “Macintosh legend 2 under the apple tree” in October 2003 at the same time of publishing "Truth of the birth of the Macintosh legend 1". At the end of the book, "Further decades (For the reprint edition)” from the return of Jobs in December 1996 to MACOSX has been added. I think that it is wonderful that these books that are out of print will be reissued after a while.
