My appleII Notes-20
My appleII Notes-20
18/10/3 ITT2020 (Later Revision)
Luggage arrived from France.
Lust Apple II purchase was 2001, so I bought Apple II after
18 years. They are
ITT
2020 later revision and DISK II of which are said to be the first clone of Apple
for Europe.
They were sometimes found on eBay, there was no border of
what was being sold, but since there was a suitable one with a dedicated DISK
II, it made a successful bid.
が海外発送は初めてで、やりとりに苦労したが英語にフランス語を交えて何とか到着。
Seller was overseas shipping for the first time, I had difficulty in
transaction, I communicate with English and French until I receive the package.
This machine, developed jointly by ITT UK and Apple, because it was immediately replaced by Europlus, distribution has been several years since 1978. It seems that design changes were made at the initiative of ITT's technical team, in order to adapt to the input of PAL's signal on TV, it changed the frequency of the clock and the number of pixels of the Highres graphics. It is a unique one in the Apple II family.
Power
supply made by ITT.
Although DOS up to DOS 3.2 of 13 sectors in ITT, it is common that the
upgrade was not provided, but the arriving machine was equipped with 16
sectors of DISK II card and well operated with 3.3 instead of DOS 3.2.
Perhaps in later versions, this configuration might have been common at the
discretion of the distributor.
The case of late specification seems to be ITT design with firm body and
matte gray painting. First, I pull dust, polish and take a commemorative photo and connect a 240 V step up transformer. PAL monitor is substituted by modified LCD color monitor for IIC. Fortunately I make sure neatly? to move the ITT 2020 main body and DISKII |

ITT CONSUMER PRODUCTS (UK) LTD. And the UK.
ITT changed part of APPLESOFT and called PAL SOFT, and a seal is affixed.
Key tops are black like Bell & Howell.
In the lower right is the small nameplate of the Apple system showing joint
development with Apple Inc.. Since the early version was released in 1978, Europlus was also released in accordance with Apple IIPlus in 1979, this model is estimated to be manufactured around 1979. 12KRAM . It was sold by Bell telephone company in Benelux 3 countries and by Microsense computer company in UK. The UK 's Microsense computer company seems to be acquired by Apple in the later years. |
Changes and impacts for European
specifications
ITT's technical team is committed to the VIDEO OUTPUT based on the PAL system
used in European television receivers and is making design changes to the main
board.
This seems to be thought that PAL output is contributing to the expansion of the
European market, rather than preparing an additional NTSC television or
dedicated monitor for Apple II.
On the other hand, EUROPLUS prepares a video card exclusively for PAL. It
supports PAL system without the design change of the mainboard and software.
For this reason,
(1)
The
ITT 2020 used a higher clock frequency, necessary for the PAL signal.
(2)
A
17.73 MHz crystal was used (Four times the PAL subcarrier frequency of
4.433 MHz), whereas the Apple II used a 14.318 crystal- four times the NTSC
subcarrier frequency of 3.58 MHz.
(3) In
the ITT 2020, the crystal frequency was divided by 17 to give the microprocessor
a clock frequency of 1.042 MHz. In the Apple II, the frequency was divided by 14
to give a microprocessor clock frequency of 1.023 MHz.
An increased the horizontal resolution
of Hires graphics from 280 pixels to 360 pixels resulted in display problems
with software using Hires graphics and as a result it is unique but difficult to
use a machine.
ITT also called Applesoft of this specification as PALSoft.

Special ROM
Information dedicated to ITT 2020 for PALSoft, 341-0021, 341 - 0022, 341 - 0023,
341 - 0024. 341 - 0025, information that the F8 for auto start is loaded with
Apple IIPlus 341 – 0020. Although there
is no change in the machine that came to me, F8, it is not the specification of
auto start.
All ROMs are made in 1978 and seem not to have been changed
in particular. In the photo on the site of
applefritter, since F8 is 341-0020, it seems to be the same specification as
AppleIIPlus if I replace F8ROM.
Manual / Diskette / Cassette
Manual, a set of software was acquired 4 to 5 years ago separately from this
hardware.
There
are three cassettes attached to manual 1. Cassette 1 SIDE 1 INTEGER BASIC SIDE 2 DRAGON MAZE Cassette 2 SIDE 1 HI RES DEMO SIDE 2 COLOR DEMO Cassette 3 SIDE 1 BASIC TEST PROGRAM 16 k SIDE 2 RAM TEST Software Diskettes are SYSTEM MASTER of DOS 3.2 and DOS 3.3. Other familiar manuals are crude in UK printing. I discovered that Refference Manual (equivalent to Redbook) is missing in the process of searching ITT 2020 information on the Web for this machine. It seems to be a coarse editing manual just called Applesoft called PALSOFT and replacing APPLE with MICRO, there seem to be two kinds, so I would like to find if there is a chance. |
Commemorative photography with Manual, a set of software.
Recent eBay is rigorous in posting traceability and postage fee is stupid
expensive from abroad to Japan, but I think it's fun to get the manual and
software that comes hard to get with hardwares.
